Every week, downtown Santa Maria hosts a major community event – the Downtown Fridays Farmers Market. Since the Central Coast is a huge region for agriculture, the food at this farmers market is some of the best and freshest you can find. I quickly learned that Santa Maria is very proud of its food. In particular, it's proud of its barbecue. I've long heard that the barbecue in Santa Maria is some of the best in the country, so I knew I had to test out some tri-tip while in the area. There are a number of great spots for barbecue in and around Santa Maria, and I tried out a few. Each time, I was blown away by how delicious it was – there's definitely good reason for the locals to be proud of their barbecue.

If you like wine, you'll love the Central Coast. The Santa Maria Valley boasts over 30 wine tasting rooms, where you can sample some of the best wines in the region. Whether you want to spend a day hopping from one winery to the next or you just like admiring the beauty of the rolling vineyards, you're sure to love all that the Santa Maria Valley has to offer.
