HotelTonight – Silt, CO Hotels Around the Bend
I'm a traveling salesperson, and my territory covers most of the western United States. It's pretty often that I will fly into Denver, spend a day or two there in meetings and then head to some other big city in that part of the country. As such, I've gotten to know the area relatively well, at least in terms of the roads I commonly take. For instance, I've driven down Interstate 70 more times than I can remember, and I can basically tell you exactly where I am if you drop me anywhere on that highway. It's nice to be able to predict things, but in Colorado some things are simply not predictable. The weather is one of those things. It can turn on a dime, and if you're not prepared you could wind up very wet, very hot or every cold. That could have happened to me on my last trip there, but thankfully as I was heading west out of Denver I got a call from my office. There was a big storm up ahead, but instead of turning around, I just stopped where I was. Downtown
As I pulled into downtown Silt, a town with a population of under 2,000 people, I felt like I was pulling into a classic town in the Old West. The buildings all seemed to look like they could've git in that genre, even though most of them were brick. They were very well maintained, the streets were very clean and everyone seemed to know each other pretty well. I got out of the car and was surprised that so many people greeted me with a warm smile and a nod. This was a friendly place.
The Historical Park
Just outside of the middle of town sits a historical park. I'm not generally one for this type of thing, but it looked quite interesting for some reason. I took a tour and was glad I did, as it was a fascinating look at what life was like on the frontier dating back well over 100 years ago. The tools, artifacts and other pieces they had on display were so real and so pristine that I imagined myself trying to live in that time and struggling with it.
The Dining
I felt like having a nice dinner, and I was told about a steakhouse right there in town that people drove from all over to enjoy. I went over there and managed to get a table. It's a very nice and modern place, and boy do they know how to cook a steak. I had the T-bone, and it was not only enormous, but the juices flowed out of it like a river and onto my very tasty baked potato. I ate hungrily, enjoyed a nice glass of wine with it and felt like a king.
