HotelTonight – North Shore Chicago Hotels Just for You
I have been traveling to Chicago for years for work. I always look forward to my time there, as Chicago is a fun, interesting and lively city. Even though I rarely have more than an hour or so to spare, it never takes that long to find something interesting to do, see or eat. However, on recent trips I've been wondering what it's like to actually live in Chicago. Downtown is home to many residents, but I wanted to branch out a bit and see what life was like in the 'other' parts of the city. On my last trip there, I got that chance. I got a call from my office early in the morning on my last day there telling me that everything on my calendar had been canceled. I wasn't flying home for another 24 hours. Instead of trekking over to O'Hare to wait for a possible standby seat, I decided to use that 24 hours to explore a different part of town. I wanted to see the North Shore. I wasn't concerned about finding a place to stay, as HotelTonight would help me book a North Shore Chicago hotel room in seconds.
The Nature
I don't think I've ever given much thought to the outdoors when I was in Chicago, other than perhaps noticing the wind. My experience there always involved skyscrapers, hustle and bustle downtown and a lot of urban/city-type experiences. When I got to the North Shore, though, I was happy that I was dressed casually and that I had some walking shoes. I stopped at a huge nature preserve and walked around for a couple of hours among the trees. I saw dozens of different types of birds and even a big deer near a pond. It was a bucolic scene.
The Museums
As I ventured back into civilization, I found myself wandering through not one, but two different museums. One was dedicated to stained glass, and I was captured by the different, intricate pieces from different time periods for a couple of hours. I then made my way to the art museum that's associated with Northwestern University. It was stunning. There were works of art from all different genres, from world-famous artists and those I had never heard of, and every twist and turn led me to something interesting.
The Dining
A lady at the art museum told me about a pizzeria that had been knocking it out of the park for a couple of generations, and that was all I needed to hear. I walked in and saw a quaint, Italian-style restaurant with white table cloths and a modest bar. I ordered the pepperoni pizza, and the crust was thin and crispy. The cheese was falling off the sides it was so thick, and I enjoyed a local pilsner to help wash it all down. It was a tremendous dinner, and I ate more than I should have.
