HotelTonight – You'll Love These Bar Harbor Hotels

Located on the idyllic Mount Desert Island off the coast of Maine, the charming town of Bar Harbor is one of the favorite coastal destinations on the East Coast – and it's not hard to see why. Its historic charm, untamed coastline and small-town atmosphere make it a highly desirable summer destination, so I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to visit Bar Harbor during my recent trip to Maine. I had booked a week-long trip to Maine to visit relatives, and they recommended that I take advantage of the gorgeous summer weather and make the trip out to Bar Harbor while I was there. After hearing them describe Bar Harbor to me (and after learning that it's been a beloved vacation spot for elite families like the Obamas and the Rockefellers), I pulled up my HotelTonight app and searched for a hotel in Bar Harbor, Maine. Minutes later, I had a lovely hotel room waiting for me in the heart of Bar Harbor, and I was ready to hop on a ferry and make the quick trip to the island.

Village Green

The Village Green is Bar Harbor's beautiful little town square, and it's always bustling with energy during the warm summer months. This historic square is a picturesque spot in the center of town, and it hosts regular concerts, festivals and events. While I was in Bar Harbor, I listened to great live music, enjoyed a picnic and had fun people watching on the Village Green. I was lucky that my hotel was nearby, because it was so easy for me to take a leisurely stroll to the Village Green to see what kind of activities were happening in the heart of town.

Main Street

If you want to wander down a small-town Main Street that looks like it belongs in a painting, you'll fall head over heels in love with Bar Harbor's Main Street. This colorful, historic main drag is lined with old-fashioned stores and charming little restaurants, and it truly feels like a quintessential small town in Maine. This is where I did most of my shopping and most of my eating – and I had plenty of incredible meals while in Bar Harbor. It probably goes without me saying, but when you're in Maine, you better have some lobster.

Acadia National Park

Located on the island, Acadia National Park is a 47,000-acre recreation area that features spectacular natural scenery. As one of the most treasured areas in Maine, Acadia is a must-visit while on Mount Desert Island. I spent half a day in the park, and I still didn't feel like it was enough time. This massive park features glacier-capped peaks, dramatic rocky beaches and pretty woodlands, and there's certainly no shortage of outdoor activities to enjoy at Acadia. I decided to spend the afternoon hiking through the stunning landscapes, but other visitors were mountain biking, bird watching and horseback riding.

Little Cranberry Island

There are many smaller islands surrounding Mount Desert Island, so I decided to spend a morning exploring one of the more popular islands, Little Cranberry Island. I jumped on a mail boat and took a quick trip to Little Cranberry Island, where I visited the Islesford Historical Museum and went to a dockside restaurant for another meal of delicious, fresh lobster.

Shore Path

Without a doubt, my favorite part of Bar Harbor was the beautiful nature all around. One of my favorite places to enjoy the nature and the stunning ocean views of Bar Harbor was on the Shore Path. This historic coastal trail was established in 1880, and I loved walking the same trail that the island's merchants and visitors had walked over a hundred years ago. This picturesque trail was my favorite way to get the full scope of Bar Harbor's beauty, as well as get a taste of its history. On my last day in Bar Harbor, I set my alarm clock extra early so that I could set out for the Shore Path to soak in a breathtaking sunrise, and it was easily the most unforgettable moment of my trip.
