HotelTonight – Arena District Columbus Hotels
Columbus, Ohio, is a place that has to be explored deeply in order to be fully and completely understood. I've been traveling there for years for my job, and from the first time I saw it I knew it was a place to learn more about. On my first few trips, I saw nothing more than a few Columbus hotel rooms, some conference rooms and a restaurant or two as well as the airport. I finally came up with a basic plan to allow me to explore it a bit further. I've been scheduling my return flights from my meetings for 24 hours after they are complete. That has given me a full day to explore the city a bit more. However, instead of just driving around, I've been choosing one neighborhood in which to spend my time. That removes any time-related stress and gives me the chance to really dig deeply into a place. For my last trip, I chose to explore the Arena District. I wasn't worried about lodging, either, as I always travel with HotelTonight. I'd be able to find and book an Arena District Columbus hotel room in seconds.
The Youth
Most of the neighborhoods I had explored in Columbus prior to this one were quite old, dating back more than 100 years. While the land in the Arena District was here for quite some time, it was never really much of a neighborhood until relatively recently. Basically, the Arena District as presently constituted is a 21st century creation. It's interesting to see how it's all coming together, as the planners are making sure that there is something for everyone here and there is a definite order to things in terms of what goes where and when.
The Facilities
The springboard for the development of this neighborhood was the arrival of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets in 2000. It's the only major professional sports team in Columbus, and it's already beloved by the fans here. Nationwide Arena, as is often the case, has prompted the development of several other options for the thousands of fans who come to hockey games dozens of times per year. There's also a nice minor league ballpark nearby where a AAA baseball team plays. In short, this is a new neighborhood that's here largely because of sports.
The Food
Sports fans and people in general are hungry, and there is no shortage of choice when it comes to cuisine here in the Arena District. I felt like Mexican food that night, and there was a place right near where I was that looked pretty good to me. I was right. The burrito I had was not only carefully prepared, but it had a sauce poured on top of it that was nothing short of sublime. The margarita I had with it was also delicious.
