HotelTonight – Seaside, Oregon Hotels

I've been traveling to Oregon for a long time, and what gets me about this beautiful state is that it seems as though every time I'm there, I find something new and totally unexpected. I was amazed at the modernity of Portland when I saw it for the first time. I couldn't believe the beauty of the frontier when I spent time in the eastern part of the state for the first time. I was blown away by the beauty of the rocky coastline when I initially saw it. So should I have been all that surprised when I suddenly wound up in a beach town in the northwestern portion of Oregon not too long ago? I guess not, as once again this is a state filled with wonder. I wound up spending 24 hours in a little community known as Seaside, and the day I spent there was quite memorable. I didn't know I was heading there ahead of time, but that wasn't important. That's because I travel with my HotelTonight app, which means that lodging is never an issue. I booked a Seaside, Oregon hotel room immediately when I was ready to get some sleep.

The Vibe

As I got to downtown Seaside, it almost felt as if I was no longer in Oregon. There are very few things that one community has in common with another in this diverse state, but one of them is the feel, or the vibe, that you're in a mountainous place. I didn't feel that in Seaside. It almost felt as though I had fallen through a trap door and landed in Southern California. This was a beach town. There were beach-type shops downtown and I even saw some surfboards on the back of trucks. It was remarkable.

The Promenade

Once again, much like what you'd see in San Diego or Los Angeles along the coast, there was a big, sturdy concrete boardwalk that ran along the beach. It's not referred to as a boardwalk here, but instead it's called The Promenade, or "The Prom" as locals know it. It extends for about 1.5 miles along the coast, and I walked the entire thing, taking in the surf, the surfers and the seaside homes that are generally vacation rentals. What I found different from those Southern California locations, at least on that day, was that a large percentage of the people I spoke to were local.

The Dining

If I'm next to the sea, I'm in the mood for seafood. I've eaten a lot of great seafood in Oregon, and I wanted more of it. A lady I spoke to on The Prom told me about a place that served great dinners, including oysters, which I love. I went in and it was an old building with old decor. I ordered some oysters to start, and you could tell they had just been caught. I had the fish and chips to follow, and the cod was cooked perfectly.
