HotelTonight – Bluffton, SC Hotels Near You
I love the Lowcountry in South Carolina. It's almost as if you're looking at a piece of history every time you're there, yet there are modern amenities that add conveniences to the entire lifestyle. Perhaps the thing I like about this little corner of the world even more than the scenery is the people. Unfortunately, I have not gotten the opportunity to see the Lowcountry as often as I would have liked, as life, work and everything else tends to get in the way. For some time, I had to allow this area to live in my memories. That all changed recently, though, when I ran into an old friend who had a unique offer for me. He was part of a group that was traveling to Bluffton, South Carolina, and a member of that group had dropped out of the trip suddenly. I was invited to go, but the group was leaving in a couple of hours, and I'd have to find my own lodging. That wasn't a problem, as I travel with my HotelTonight app. I'd simply book a Bluffton, SC hotel room when I got there. I was off to see the Lowcountry once again.
Old Town
In general, I've found places around the country that were named 'Old Town' to be hit or miss – either they've been fantastic, or they were clearly made for tourists and not that authentic. Old Town in Bluffton was clearly the former. The old buildings in this part of town were stunning, particularly the old plantation houses and quaint shops that occupied some of the others. I walked around and took a lot of photos, as I had good lighting considering the tree cover that dominated this area. I also got to talk to some nice locals.
The Farmer's Market
Not far up the road, I ran into the Farmer's Market. I had seen many of these as well, but this one was memorable for a lot of reasons. First, there were musical acts performing that gave the entire scene a distinct southern and local flavor. Secondly, the produce that was on sale looked incredible, and I enjoyed a few pieces of fruit. Finally, the homemade goods such as breads and jams looked too good to pass up, so I bought quite a few items to take with me. After all that, I sat and enjoyed the entertainment.
The Dining
I had heard about a fine-dining local restaurant several times throughout that day, and I kept it in mind when dinnertime rolled around. I walked in and saw a lovely, rustic room with smells that were so tempting it was hard to control myself. I went with the fried catfish for dinner, along with a salad. The fish was cooked perfectly and served with a very tasty sauce, and the salad was exploding with local produce and so big that it could have been a meal by itself.
