I was driving through South Dakota on my way visit family in Iowa, when I started feeling tired and needed a break from the long drive. I pulled off the road in Mitchell South Dakota and decided to spend the day exploring the town to see what there was to do. The Area
Mitchell is located in the southeastern part of the state and is the county seat of Davison County. The city is home to Dakota Wesleyan University and has a population of more than 15,000 people. The town is near the James River and the beautiful Mitchell Lake. There are also a number of hiking trails near the city for anyone who loves the outdoors. I'd never been to Mitchell before, but I could tell as soon as I pulled into town that I was going to enjoy my day in the city. It seemed that despite being a smaller town, there was so much to see and do.
Things to Do
I started out my day in town with a trip to Dakota Discovery Museum. The museum focuses on showing the history of the first settlers in the area and gives a look at what life was like for the early pioneers. The museum had so many interesting exhibits and really managed to capture what the settlers of the region went through and dealt with. After that, I headed to Lake Mitchell and spent some time hiking around the area. It's a beautiful hiking trail, and I loved being able to spend some time outside.
The Food
After I finished hiking around the lake, I was feeling hungry and wanted to get something really good to eat. I asked some locals where the best place in town was to grab a bite, and they suggested I visit a great little Mexican restaurant. The loved the atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a pork burrito, and it was so good. Everything tasted really fresh, and I loved the food. I'll definitely eat here again on my way home.
