HotelTonight – Book Your Hotel in Lubbock Texas

Lubbock has earned the nickname, "Hub City," because it's the hub of education, business and health care in the South Plains region of Texas. This quintessential Texas city has a bit of everything, from great entertainment to acclaimed higher education to beautiful natural surroundings, so I was thrilled when I had the chance to visit Lubbock on a recent trip through Texas. I wanted to see what life was like for locals in Lubbock, and I felt welcomed into their city right away. After booking my Lubbock hotel through my HotelTonight app, I simply drove to my centrally located hotel, checked in and then asked some locals for recommendations of what to do and see in their hometown. Just like that, I was ready to explore Lubbock like a local.

The Depot Entertainment District

Lubbock locals know how to have fun, which is why nearly every local I talked to recommended that I spend some time in the Depot Entertainment District. This downtown district is the hub of excitement and entertainment in Lubbock, and it offers great live music, dancing and dining. This is the epicenter of nightlife in Lubbock, and I was lucky enough to find several great live music joints, where I got to see talented local country musicians play original songs as well as the best classics in Texas country music.

Outdoor Recreation

Lubbock, Texas boasts great weather year-round, which is why locals enjoy so much time outdoors. There are a number of great parks and lakes in and around Lubbock, such as Buffalo Springs Lake, Lake Alan Henry, the Buddy Holly Recreation Area and Mackenzie Park. Whether you want to go boating or kayaking, hiking or biking or simply picnicking in a beautiful park, there's a public space for you to enjoy in Lubbock.

Wine Country

Believe it or not, but Lubbock is actually in the midst of a wine renaissance. There are a number of exciting young wineries in and around Lubbock, and the surrounding wine country is a great place for wine tasting and learning about the burgeoning Texas wine scene. I knew I couldn't travel all the way to Lubbock without tasting a few acclaimed local wines, so I hopped in the rental car and headed out into wine country. As someone who spends a lot of time in California wine country, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this Texas wine region, and wine tasting around Lubbock was one of the highlights of my Texas getaway.
