Eastern Washington University (EWU) is a public university that was first established in 1882, and many of the buildings and monuments on campus are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. When you wander through the university district, you'll get a great sense of the energy and excitement of Cheney's young student population. This youthful group provides Cheney with an infectious energy that you can feel the moment you arrive, and the neighborhoods surrounding the campus are home to great (and affordable) shops and eateries.
Community Events
Cheney is a small city, so it prides itself on its tight-knit community. Part of Cheney's charm comes from its regular community events, which make the city feel like a quintessential small town. Some of the most popular events in Cheney include the Cheney Rodeo Days, which is a major rodeo competition held each July, the weekly Cheney Farmers Market, and on-campus arts and entertainment events. Despite the fact that Cheney is a small city, it still offers a lot of fun things to do.
