I love exploring towns and cities that are off-the-beaten track, which is why I decided to visit Vancouver, Washington. Vancouver is situated on the Columbia River, so it's no surprise that the river is a focal point of life in this Washington city. Locals love the Columbia, because there are so many recreational activities to enjoy near it. You can hop on a boat or even paddle up the river, or you can enjoy one of the many beautiful trails that wind along the Columbia. I decided to go biking along the river every day I was in Vancouver, and it gave me a glimpse of what my life would be like if I really lived here – and I loved it.
The Arts District
Vancouver, Washington is a surprisingly creative community, and you can catch a glimpse of the artistic culture of the city the Arts District. Here, you'll find artists' studios and galleries, as well as amphitheaters and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. If you're lucky, you might be able to catch some live performances or a festival at the Esther Short Park while in Vancouver.
Outdoor Activities
Given its location, Vancouver is the perfect home base for anyone looking to enjoy the great outdoors. All within a short drive from Vancouver, you can find great skiing, hiking, kayaking, climbing, hunting, fishing, and biking, plus so much more. From water sports in the summer to snow sports in the winter, Vancouver is a haven for outdoors sports lovers, and it's one of the reasons why I fell in love with Vancouver almost immediately, and it's certainly one of the reasons I hope to return in the future.
