It's pretty much impossible to wander through Old City without stumbling upon some major landmark or historic site, but don't think of this neighborhood like a museum. Rather, it's a vibrant, popular neighborhood where locals love to shop, dine and play. One of the liveliest stretches in Old City is 2nd Street, which features a number of locally beloved bars, independent boutiques and even art galleries. If you want to get a feel for the Old City that locals love, you'll definitely want to take a stroll down 2nd Street.
Independence Mall
Sure, Independence Mall is a major tourist destination, but even locals appreciate the history and legacy of Old Town Philadelphia. Whether you're planning on spending significant time at historic institutions like the Liberty Bell Center and the National Constitution Center or not, you still shouldn't skip Independence Mall entirely while visiting Old Town.
