San Jose is one of the 10 largest cities in the United States. That comes as a surprise to a lot of people, and it certainly did to me. I had no idea how big and diverse San Jose was until I visited it for the first time. I was there for work and have been back there several times since, but because I was always there for a professional purpose I never really had the opportunity to explore the area as I would have liked to. I decided to change all that the last time I had meetings there. The streets are lined with trees perfectly, and there are cute little shops, restaurants and small businesses everywhere. I easily forgot that I was in a neighborhood inside of an enormous city. I enjoyed just walking around for a bit, looking through some shop windows and even making small talk with some locals. This is a happy place.
The Arts Scene
I had always associated any type of art scene with large cities. While I was in a large city, Willow Glen has its own identity and, apparently, its own art scene. There were quite a few art galleries in this little community, and I walked through a few of them and was quite impressed. There is an appreciation to art that is apparent with seemingly all of the small businesses in town, as it was a regular sight to see some painting or paintings from local artists on the walls of different types of operations.
The Family-Owned Restaurants
What you won't find in Willow Glen is a lot of different chain restaurants. There are a few, but for the most part you'll be dining at a family-owned establishment when you decide to have a meal. I've always preferred this, and for dinner I decided to enjoy some Chinese food. I stopped into the restaurant and was immediately greeted by a big smile. I was seated, ordered the house special and within a few minutes I was digging into a delectable treat. The tastiness of the food was surpassed only by the level of service I received.
