Seattle is an enormous city, which means that you'll find something a bit different almost anywhere you go within it. One common thread, however, is the beauty that is impossible not to notice as you walk, bike or drive around town. I've long been fascinated with this gorgeous place, as I have traveled here for work quite often. I wanted to get to know more about Seattle in recent times, but I'm not one of those people who takes a couple of days off and does the touristy things in hopes of getting to know an area. Instead, I like to focus on one part of town and spend a day exploring it to the full extent possible. On my last trip, I chose to explore Broadmoor, one of the nicest neighborhoods in town. The Affluence
One of the first things you notice when you arrive in Broadmoor is the high-end living that the residents here enjoy. The streets are pristinely manicured, the lawns on the large homes are immaculate and the gated community is opulent. That said, this is not a place that is in any way unwelcome to visitors. I spent some time looking around at all of the different architectural styles that are here, and I got to talk to some people about what it's like living life in Broadmoor. Everyone was extremely friendly and happy to tell me a bit about their home community.
The Sense of Community
Oftentimes, gated communities are a bit unlike what you would think of in terms of communities in that people tend to do their own thing and leave each other alone. What I saw in Broadmoor was a group of people who seem to really like to get together. I glanced at a couple of community calendars and there are regular get-togethers for things like holidays and other occasions. There weren't any happening on the day I was there, but it was quickly obvious that most people knew most other people and that they were quite friendly with each other.
The Quiet
The last thing you think of when you ponder Seattle is serenity, as this is a big, bustling city. The opposite is true in Broadmoor. As I walked down the streets there, I noticed that I could actually hear myself think and even hear the leaves on the trees rustling in the wind. I had to stop and remind myself that I was in the middle of an enormous metropolis. I'm sure that's part of the draw for the people who live here.
