HotelTonight – First Hill Seattle Hotels in a Few Swipes
Seattle is an incredible city for a lot of different reasons. It has its famous landmarks that people from around the world are familiar with, but there is so much more than that there that it's almost a shame that more people haven't explored the intricacies of the Emerald City. I have made it a silent mission in recent years to get to know Seattle one piece at a time so that I can obtain a thorough understanding of what it's actually like to live here. I've been doing so by taking advantage of any opportunity to spend an additional 24 hours there. I'm there for work often, so I extend my trip by a day when I'm there. I've had layovers there, and I do the same thing in that situation as well. I recently had another opportunity to do this, and I chose to spend 24 hours exploring the neighborhood of First Hill. I was excited to see yet another area in this community. I wasn't worried about accommodations, either, as I always hit the road with HotelTonight. It's an app that helps you find last-minute hotel rooms. I'd book a First Hill Seattle hotel room when I was ready.
The Mansions
I didn't know this until I got there, but First Hill was basically the first neighborhood in Seattle that was home to the so-called elite of the city. As such, the area is filled with old but incredibly beautiful mansions. I spent a lot of time just walking around and taking photos of them, wondering who was occupying them now and what it took to keep them up to date and fully cared for. It was clear that there were still people living in most of them.
The Medical Community
I also found out from talking to someone on the street that First Hill is known by some as Pill Hill. That's because there are so many hospitals and clinics here. One thing is certain: if you get sick or injured in First Hill, you won't have to go far to find care. I'm not sure why this played out this way, but it also means that a lot of the people who work in these facilities live nearby, adding to the overall vibe of the neighborhood.
The Art Museum
I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I walked into the Frye Art Museum, but I did know that both parking and admission were free, which was a nice draw. What I saw when I got in there was an incredible collection of paintings and sculpture. Most of the pieces I looked at were from the 20th Century, so it was definitely a modern art museum. Before I knew it, I had spent over two hours there just taking it all in.
