HotelTonight – University District Seattle Hotels When You Need Them
Seattle is one of those cities where, no matter where you look, you find something you're glad you discovered. I've always felt that way about the Emerald City, and I always look for just about any excuse to spend any amount of time there. Fortunately, my job is such that I fly in to Seattle somewhat regularly. Lately, when I've been sent to Seattle, I've been able to push my return flight out by 24 hours before returning to the home office. That gives me a day to explore. Instead of trying to cover all sorts of spots on the map within those 24 hours, I have been choosing one neighborhood and spending my time there. For my last trip, I decided to spend my 24 hours in the University District, or the U-District as it's known by some there. I couldn't wait to see a part of town that I had yet to discover. I wasn't worried about finding a place to stay, either, as I have been using HotelTonight whenever I'm on the road recently. The U-Dub
Obviously, this part of town is named after the University of Washington, one of the most famous schools in the entire world. It's an enormous, gorgeous campus situated on Lake Washington and overlooking downtown Seattle. Whoever put this campus together did so with a lot of forethought, as the development here has folded seamlessly into the landscape as the school has gotten bigger. I noticed that there were a lot of people here who were not necessarily students as well, which told me that locals also feel it's worth coming here for some fun.
The Farmer's Market
I have always thought that one of the best ways to get to know a city or a neighborhood is by checking out its farmer's market if it has one. The U-District does, and it's nothing short of wonderful. It is not only huge, it not only offers beautiful produce, but it's an event in itself. There is music playing, there are dancers all around, there are street artists and performers doing their thing and there's a vibe here that says, "it's all good, everyone is welcome and we're all going to have a nice time."
The Food
I've found that large campuses are largely hit-or-miss when it comes the restaurants that are present on them. The restaurants here are a huge hit to be sure. I stood in line for a bit waiting for a Thai restaurant, but it was worth the wait. The food was not only spicy but also extremely tasty, and it was clearly authentic, as I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur with regards to Thai food. It was a fantastic meal.
